A wedding celebration is never complete without a wedding cake. The cutting of a wedding cake symbolizes the commitment to one another and the promise to provide for each other.
It's once in a lifetime chance to get a cake designed specially for you and your guests!
Steps to choosing your wedding cake
1. Venue
Once you have determined your wedding reception venue and an estimate of the guest numbers, start considering the type of wedding cake suitable. Fresh cream cakes need to be displayed in an air-conditioned room. Fondant covered cakes can be displayed in sheltered outdoors. Also note that some reception caterers charge a fee to cut and serve the cake.
2. Budget
Determine a budget for your cake. A good looking cake does not need to empty your pockets. Generally, more tiers and complicated design will be expensive. Instead of a multi-tiered cake, you can choose mini cakes and stack them like a cupcake tower or have a few smaller 2 tier cakes placed together for effect.
3. Design
The wedding cake should match with the style and theme of your wedding. It may help to look at photographs in magazines and books or online for inspiration. This way, you can better communicate your ideas to the baker to work out a design for you. However, don't expect the cake to look exactly the same as another.
